And the winner is…Dorcas Kasinde from Congo Democratic Republic. Dorcas clinched the crown from Botwana’s Gase Balopi – Miss Africa 2018. Bonang Matheba of S. Africa and Nigeria’s Ebuka Obi-Uchendu of the “Sweet Boys Association” co-hosted the event in Calabar – Cross River State, Nigeria. Ms Kasinde’s efforts were rewarded with a brand new Ford SUV in addition to a $35k cash prize. Not bad eh…! In spite of the stiff competition, Dorcas beat Chimamaka Nnaemeka of Nigeria and Gladys Kayumba of Zambia who came in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. First thing to remember is that with this win comes great responsibility; championing causes close to the heart of Africa such as migration and climate change.

Whilst Merit Atah was the face of Cameroon at the Beauty Pageant, there was representation from 25 other African states. Here at MammyPi, we were rooting for Cameroon’s Merit Atah, but it wasn’t to be.  Bad day at the office for her. However, entering the pageant with a Niki Heat modelling contract in hand could never be bad for anyone’s bank balance or brand awareness.
