WIZKID DAYO – Dolce & Gabbana-
Wizkid Dayo is definitely breaking in, not only into music royalty but now into high fashion nobility. The Nigerian music star walked the Dolce & Gabbana runway showcasing their 2019 spring/summer men’s collection. Wizkid is likely the first African artist to walk at one of the multinational fashion house’s shows. Dolce & Gabbana have spent the last few seasons featuring demographically-specific influencers. Notable in their list of influencers has been kids of Hollywood giants such as Presley Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s son), Rafferty Law (Jude Law’s son), Brandon Thomas Lee (Pamela Anderson’s son) and Levi Dylan (Bob Dylan’s grandson). This time around it was Nigeria’s own Wizkid. This was not only groundbreaking but incredible as the show also featured fashion icon and modelling goddess, Naomi Campbell!
Wizkid Dayo is famous for his unique take on the Afrobeat sound and is a household name in Nigeria. His song, Ojuelegba, raised him to international prominence especially with its 2015 remix with Canadian rapper, Drake. Talk about the international endorsement of his musical chops!
Given that we live in a millennial world today, featuring Wizkid Dayo on the runway is a very strategic move by Dolce & Gabbana. It has opened up the fashion powerhouse to a whole new universe in Africa. Of course, the brand was well-known before, but they have just upped the ante when it comes to their African audience. This is indeed diversity at best and our “brother” Dayo (Wizkid) sure did make us proud in his showing!
WIZKID FOR DOLCE & GABBANA
In his runway debut, Wizkid Dayo strutted down the runway wearing a stylish black outfit with gold embroidery. This was very reminiscent of Michael Jackson. He completed the look with a studded mask and loafers and cross embellished dangling jewellery. The look was fierce, daring and very stylish at the same time. True artistry.
