Sadiq Khan Mayor of London wrote: “I’m delighted that the House of Lords has voted to give EU citizens who currently live in the UK the right to stay here after Brexit.

There are 3.3 million EU members living across Britain – around a million in London alone- and they make a huge contribution to our city, our economy, our culture and our society. As Mayor, my clear message to every single EU citizen in London is this; you are and will continue to be welcome here.
I’m now calling on the Government to accept this amendment from the House of Lords when the Article 50 Bill-which allows the Government to start the process of Britain leaving the EU- comes back to the House of Commons next week. Ministers have repeatedly said that EU citizens have nothing to worry about- and now they have the chance to prove that by amending this bill to give a cast-iron guarantee to EU citizens already here that they have the right to stay in the UK”.
