Rene Awambeng Gallantly Accepts Global Executive Leader Award Powerlist 2024

Rene Awambeng Director and Head of Client Relations, Afreximbank was recognized in the Powerlist 2024 hosted by Powerful Media. The Powerlist is an annual publication that highlights Black Excellence by showcasing Britain’s most influential black role models to young people across sectors including business, science, technology and the arts. The annual list was first published in 2007 and has gained prominence since, celebrating people of African, African Caribbean and African American heritage.

Powerlist 2024 Global Executive Leader Award

Rene Awambeng, the only recipient of Cameroonian descent, Director and Global Head of Client Relations at Afreximbank, earned the Powerlist 2024 Global Executive Leader Award sponsored by the London Stock Exchange Group. This award is given to an outstanding leader, based outside the United Kingdom, who has demonstrated exceptional vision, innovation, and influence and had a transformative impact on their organization. Candidates for this award are judged on their “ability to change lives and alter events, as demonstrated over a protracted period and in a positive manner”.

After attending the Powerlist 2024 Black Excellence Awards reception at Buckingham Palace in London by royal invitation, hosted by King Charles III, Rene Awambeng said during his acceptance speech on Friday: “I am passionate about serving Africa at Afreximbank and this Award is a recognition of the transformational work and contribution we do to make positive change in Africa. At Afreximbank we see the Diaspora as the 56th country of Africa. This Award is a privilege and should serve as inspiration for the younger men and women to work hard and aspire for change.”

The 52-year-old, who joined Afreximbank in 2016 holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon, an MBA from the University of Nottingham Business School, Nottingham, U.K. Mr Awambeng is a member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants- London, U.K. “CIMA”.

Akere Muna, acclaimed Cameroonian lawyer and former presidential candidate, said: “Our very own Cameroonian Rene Awambeng was awarded the Global Executive Leader Award at the Powerful Media’s Powerlist Black Excellence Awards, 2024.”
